P2 - ARCH 201

Project 2

Project Description

Find a refugee camp somewhere in the globe and design a modular, cost-effective structure that gives the refugees a better shelter to live in than before. The shelter should be able to house 4 - 8 people and be designed for the camp that it will be placed in.

I have selected the North Waziristan, Pakistan refugee camp as my site. I have created a wall system that connects one panel to another that allows the users of the shelter to add or subtract panels in order to make the shelter more personal. One of the goals of the shelter is to allow the users to place the shelter in multiple organizational patterns that make the camp feel less like a jail. Another goal is to allow the shelter to act not only as a home but also as an economic center so the camp can function as a small city.
