A2 - ARCH 263

Assignment 2 Description
The assignment 2 deals with the creation of free form curves, traditional surface classes, and freeform surfaces and their manipulation using spatial transformations. The designs will be developed to anticipate specific strategies for fabrication using planar sheets of material, among them sectioning, tessellation, and folding. Fabrication of three dimensional shapes using laser cutting techniques should include special attention to the joining of parts and pieces. Create an abstract work of art and beauty --- your final MODEL and IMAGES should have EXTERNAL sculptural qualities of abstract art and INTERNAL spacial qualities that show an interesting series of ENTRY, PATH, … Large, Intermediate and small spaces … a focal point, EXIT and simple, elegant use of geometry, structure, surface textures, color, light and overall beauty.
I used Rhino to create a curved plane that has multiple curves flowing along the plane. I created holes in the curve to run acrylic dowel rods through that would extrude into the node that is created by the enclosing walls. These walls are laser cut and the holes are filled with arcylic pieces that allow one to view the interior node from the holes. The big idea behind the project is that if you put a lightsource on the end of the blue dowel rods, the light will illuminate the dowel rod from one end to another, lighting up the interior space.
